Freshwater Types
'Commercials' are Commercial lakes. Lakes built for the purpose of stocking (usually heavily) with certain species (usually carp, tench, bream, roach, perch etc) and laid out for the benefit of the angler.
They vary greatly. Some can be large and bland, with lots of pegs but little character. Others can be beautiful and feel like little oasis's.
Then there's your old lakes and ponds, on farmland, or estate lakes. These are often old and can be overgrown and have a great deal of character. These are my personal favourate, as you don't always know what they have in them in any great detail, and that to me is half the fun. They retain an air of the old hidden pond. Angling after all, should retain a little mystery....
After this Id say you have the big reservoirs, pits, and lochs etc. These big boys have become fishable as a secondary thing to their original purposes, such as water retention, or gravel excavation (or glacier movement in the case of lochs.....)
Then of course you have rivers. These fellas have a real sense of wild fishing in its truest sense. Although most modern rivers have been 'managed' in some form or another, this is usually done to conserve and them preserve them. They are quite diverse, and you must be cautious as to who / which club / council owns which stretches, but that's only usually a call away or a few checks in your local tackle dealer.
